My Indignation.
Chile is a country of contrasts, we have
plenty of landscapes, supposedly all the climates of the globe, social and
economic stability yet…a monocultural and disrespectful country.
Historically from the different
institutions, the country has sought for unity and social stability by means of
making invisible the claims of several parts of society supporting only some
aspect of national development and forgetting some other (i.e. we are still one
of the countries with the biggest inequality rates) and though we have clearly
made progress in several topics and areas, such as the LGTN+I community claims,
educational costs, opening up of new and diverse economic sectors, etc. We
still have a long way to go in order to make this country more inclusive, more
“just” and a more balanced society.
Years ago we suffered from a dictatorship,
later on, we had an economic boom. As a country, we have long before - and also
after the dark ages, decided to endorse to the Human Rights Declaration, the
Convention on the Rights of the Child and Agreement 169 which is the convention
concerning Indigenous and Tribal Peoples in Independent Countries, and still
nowadays, 2017, those documents which have built the Chilean Society from the
constitutional grounds, are agreements and rationalities that are overlooked
and even heavily disrespected, in particular, in certain actions that ought to be
condemned and not allowed by society all together.
I am particularly talking about the news
launched last week which tells about a group of Special Forces from the Chilean
police entering and attacking a school in the south of Chile, where many
indigenous people live and where many struggles are occurring on a daily basis.
The news let us know about a big group of policemen entering the school after
having threatened all the population inside by throwing lacrimogenous gas,
apparently, in the search for extremists hiding inside and or around the school premises. Obviously, this news was
commented by the off-stream press and was published by several independent
media (I copied some links below this commentary)
In such actions, we can see what I was
talking about regarding a disrespectful, monocultural and struggling society
because the news is not important since it relates to the social sector which
little emphasis has been placed upon, and beyond confirming my claims, I
believe there are bigger questions that stimulate in me bigger indignation.
After watching this piece of news I wonder
about up to what point we are going to not think over the extreme conditions in
which the conflict with the Mapuches is being managed, I wonder about the day
in which we will stop denying we have a long and deep conflict with our
Indigenous population which obviously arises with the fact that one way or
another, as a government, the agreement 169 has not been respected. I also
wonder of how this action, against human rights and furthermore, these actions
which break the endorsement to Children Rights, will be penalized by justice if
penalized at all.
Entering a school and having war-like
behaviours inside or around a school makes the lives of all those children and
all that community sink in fear, it makes a whole community full of anger, and
furthermore, not even in war events will police or navy be allowed to enter a
school with unprotected children, just because soldiers have the morals of not
affecting so much the future generations of a culture, unless the aim is
genocide, soldiers would respect and ensure safety for children, but in the
case of the Chilean police… I wonder, where're their morals?
With this blog I would like to state my
absolute indignation with the police officers, with the central and regional
government of the Araucanía, I would like to state the strongest disapproval of
their way to conduct the conflict and why not state it, they are going against
human rights with the actions they are performing which by all means must be
penalized and furthermore, I consider they should be sent to jail on the
grounds that they stained the souls of a whole community, and hence, of the new
generations of Temucuicui …. And to me, it is almost the same than killing the
future for a child, which is also a felony, a bad action, a despicable and
vicious crime.

your topic is similar to mine regarding abuse. The human no only abuse the other species also abuse to all humans that consider inferior.

ResponderEliminarThe Araucania and the world suffer with the police repression, this is a global problem! Marichiweu!
ResponderEliminarHi teacher, I agree with you and for this we have to fight against injustice!
ResponderEliminarHello! considering this, what is your opinion about the rol of the police officers?
ResponderEliminarIt is terrible to think of the government acting towards the mapuches, since their actions realiza that they are dealing with an enemy and not with a people who have owned their lands long before the creation of the chilena state.
ResponderEliminarhello teacher, I agree completely with its dissatisfaction and discomfort, only it stays to support the people mapuche and fight for the rights of the peoples. newen for the mapuche people!
ResponderEliminarHello, this is very very sad and I believe that our country will never achieve progress if we do not protect our cultures.
